Balian learns of Hugh's last wish and undertakes a perilous mission that brings him and Saladin together again, along with Doctor Latif, Halil, and Şemse. Mila, seeking revenge, hides in the bazaar after assassinating Saladin's trapper. Şaver, supported by Zangi, continues his schemes with Cevher. Ambitious knight Guy and William, a key Crusader policy maker, unite to enact their plans for the Ibelin countship. Chatillon, released by King Amalric despite his past cruelty, reenters the scene. The central conflict is whether the Templars will follow Nureddin Zengi’s orders or Hugh’s dying wish.
